Stockholm Ethics Challenge

August 19 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

What do you do when a long-standing client asks you to “just leave out” a detail that could change how an investment is understood? What if you notice that a colleague is sharing confidential client information too casually? Or what if a profitable product is technically suitable for a client, but you suspect it is not really in their best interest?

Ethical dilemmas in banking are rarely simple. They often appear in the grey zones between commercial pressure, client interests, regulatory expectations and personal judgement.

The CFA Society Sweden Ethics Challenge gives young professionals the opportunity to practise navigating these questions before they become real-life critical moments. Participants will work in teams to tackle a tough, practical dilemma drawn from the kind of situations that can arise inside a bank.

It is a chance to put your brain to work, learn by doing, and test your reasoning with colleagues who may see the issue differently. Just as importantly, it is an opportunity to meet peers who are interested in having thoughtful, honest conversations about professional judgement and responsibility in finance.

Join us for this first Stockholm Ethics Challenge in partnership with Swedbank!

How it works: rules & practical information

For challenge participants:
For this first edition of the Stockholm Ethics Challenge, you sign up and you will be assigned to a team of min. 3 / max. 10 participants (depending on the number of participants). In total there will be max. 6 teams.

You will first hear about the case (17:00) and then be assigned to a room with your teammates. You will have 45 minutes to put down on paper the answers to the case. Please note that this will be a good old pen & paper challenge. We will ask you to put your mobile phones in a safe box for these 45 minutes.

Once you will have submitted your answers, we will call each team, one after the other, to present their answer to a jury composed of senior professionals and Andrew Crain, Director, Ethics & Professional Standards at CFA Institute who has prepared the case. Each team will have 10 minutes to present and answer questions.

Once all the teams have presented, while the jury will deliberates to designate the best team, you will get a chance to hear about the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program for a few minutes and grab a drink!

Finally, you will hear the case reveal from Andrew and learn about the feedback based on the answers of all the teams. Everyone will receive a recognition for their participation and you will find out who the best teams was!

For audience participants:
If you prefer to watch instead of immersing yourselves into the case, you are welcome to join as part of the audience! You are welcome from 17:45 when Andrew Crain, Director, Ethics & Professional Standards at CFA Institute, will give an overview of what the jury will be looking for in the answers and presentations of the teams.

You will be able to watch the team presentations, discover how the teams have interpreted the cases differently and make your own judgment of how you would have tackled the question.

Last but not least, you will be able to mingle and grab a drink with everyone else.
